Headaches

Can Physical Therapy Help Me Get Rid of Headaches?
Yes, we help people get relief from headaches all the time. If your headache is coming from muscle tightness at the base of your skull, then PT can make a big difference. Sometimes it’s a simple as releasing the tight muscles at the base of the skull with dry needling or manual therapy and then giving you exercises to help maintain the changes. A jaw problem, or tight shoulders and chest and a rounded upper back can increase neck tightness. Tight muscles often create tension on one side of the head, jaw and temple, or over the eyes. Correcting muscle imbalances can eliminate headaches, and that’s what we aim to do here at ALTA.
Other issues such as a twist in the fascia covering the brain can also be the culprit with headaches. And you may have a lower back or sacral problem that causes tension in the connective tissue around the spinal cord all the way up to the skull. Many of our clients with long standing headaches have found resolution from adjustments to the lower back and pelvis.
Your PT will assess neck and upper back mobility, stability and posture. They may also look at cranial mobility and imbalances in the craniosacral system to determine the most effective form of treatment. Alta Physical Therapists are here to help you discover and treat the cause of your headaches.
