Remember, as a kid, getting off the Merry Go Round after a particularly fast spin, and laughing as you fell to the ground, dizzy? Or, as an adult, did you ever go for a long sail boat ride and stand on solid ground, only to feel that the ground was moving beneath you?
Imagine how it would feel if the ground was always moving. And you had to touch the wall just to walk down the hall? Dizziness is no laughing matter when part of your every day life. If your brain receives conflicting input from your joints, eyes and ears, your vestibular system is challenged and equilibrium is disturbed.
Patients are so relieved when dizziness goes away. Take Connie for example. She had been having bouts of dizziness for about 3 months, when she decided to make an appointment at ALTA.
Connie tells this story: “For the last few months, getting out of bed, I feel dizzy for about a minute. I wait at the side of the bed until it clears. I can’t just pop out of bed any more. It’s kinda scary.”
Fortunately, for Connie and others with BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo), a quick and effective treatment is available at ALTA. In fact, after one treatment Connie was cured!
Sometimes your sense of balance can be compromised when you have a cold, or sinus/ear infection, but should improve when the infection is over. A room can be spinning for lots of reasons, and BPPV is just one of them. The good news is that even if one treatment does not do the trick, we have lots of “tools in our box” to evaluate and treat the many causes of dizziness.
People who experience bouts of dizziness are likely to fall, and the average cost of treating an injury from a fall is $19,440* So, if your world is spinning, get that dizziness treated right away, before a fall sends your pocketbook spinning out of control!
